Rita Hess: background
Located
in
Oklahoma
for 22 years, my background includes software developement technical documentation, human resources management, budgeting, business
start-up and reorganization, accounting, procurement, project management and
marketing.

Before returning to a full-time
freelance writing career in early 2006, I spent nearly four years
as a Technical Writer at a software development company. In
that capacity, I prepared user's guides and installation manuals
for telephony recording software. Additionally, I assisted marketing
with print collateral, web site copy and video clips. I also
tested products at the pre-release stage, trained employees to use new
product features and prepared training curriculums and materials for
installation technicians.
Prior to that,
I firmly established myself as a professional freelance writer by
giving clients what they needed: concise, error-free copy
on deadline EVERY time. What makes my work special? Content
that is appropriate for the audience, always capped with a clever title and
always ending with multiple sidebars.
My
background also includes a two year stint at the Small Business Development
Center, funded by the Small Business Administration. At the local satellite
office, I helped clients calculate start up costs, compile business
plans, evaluate market trends, obtain licenses, create effective advertising,
develop personnel policies and more. This center also advised inventors in all
stages of research, development and marketing.
For eight years, I worked
as Office Supervisor in a pipeline field office for a Fortune
500 petroleum company. In that capacity, I monitored capital
and expense budgets, negotiated material and labor contracts, and supervised
three employees who provided administrative support for 30 workers. My
responsibilities included developing/monitoring human resources policies and
procedures, preparing pipeline operations and maintenance manuals and writing
technical bid packages and construction contracts.
Let my
experience work for YOU, and you'll quickly see that all writers are
not
created equal!
